They were a total of 55 people: 8 Jews, 13 Gentiles, 21 Arabs, and 13 Negros. They had no water to drink so they cried the prayers but were not answered. They rose against the Jews to give them water, especially 11 wicked Jewish haters with a Jewish informer and they were 2 Gentiles, 5 Arabs, 3 Negros and the mentioned Jew.
:Then, one Jew who was well versed in arithmetical methods said: Yes, it is true that we give water but for the wicked among us.
:The lord said: we will cast lots and we will throw them off the wall, if we will know how many they are.
:The Jew said: I will know how many they are by a hidden way, then we will know by the way of destiny if they are Jews or Gentiles or Arabs or Negros or of the four [groups] or some of them.
:The lord: do so and succeed.
:The Jew said: it is known that the wicked are opposite of the judges and here in the fortress there are 3 known things and the fourth is known. The three knowns are the judges that are five and all of us with the judges are 55 [one judge for each nation and the lord]. We say, according to the hidden way: if one fortress [yields five judges, how many] wicked will 55 people yield? We multiply [55 by 1]; the product is 55. We divide it by 5; the result of division is 11 and they are [the wicked].
:The lord said: we will cast lots and throw them off the wall.
:He said: say by which number we will throw them off.
:The Gentiles said: the number 40, because of the prohibition of meat.
:The Arabs said: the number 30, because of their fasting [days], which are special days.
:The Negros said: the number 7, as the number of the 7 planets.
:The Jews said: to count ten, because of many things.
:The wise man answered and said: 40, 30, 7, and ten; the total is 87. This number does not have a half, nor a quarter, nor a fifth, but it has a third, which is 29. [...] and there will be no dispute.
:They answered: yes.
:So, the wise man said: Let the Lord sit down first, then one Jew, 3 Gentiles, 4 Arabs, 3 Negros, 2 Jews, 2 Gentiles, 5 Arabs, 4 Negros, 3 Jews, 1 Negro, 3 Gentiles, 4 Arabs, 2 Negros, 5 Arabs, 2 Jews, one Gentile, 3 Arabs, 3 Gentiles, 3 Negroes - a total of 55 in a circle. From the Lord we will start counting 29 and consider the 29 as 1 and so on until 11
